"the new york times" went up from 75 cents to $2. slurpee at 7/eleven, 90 cents to $2.12. the cost of raising a newborn to age 18 jumped 76%. we're used to prices going up but why so much for these things? >> i think this list is fascinating. it gives us a lot of perspective over what changed over the past ten years. i think the thing people will remember about this past decade is it was a decade of economic boom and economic bust. that's definitely reflected in some of numbers. if you look at the price of gold, for example, gold spiked tremendously over the past two years, as investigators looked at that as a safe place to store their money while the stock market has been going crazy. we are seeing some of the bigger economic picture reflected in the numbers that are on this list. >> the average cost for wad a wedding, $20,000. that's up about 8% since 1999.
